TRAKIAN
programs
Exchange
of files
You can use
the program to exchange files between 2 computers.
For the Trakian LC this is restricted to exchanging files between computers
connected by a local link.
Other versions can exchange files using a modem and the PSTN network.
(Public Switched Telephone Network) or on leased or private lines or
on
simple twisted pair cables using a "modem" if this is on long distances.
RS-232 is limited to distances about 40 meters.
But other technics exist for longer distance. 20 ma loops can connect
to theoretivally any distance. Practically it can access hundreds of meters
and the speed is limited, depending of the line and of the 20 ma converter
used. And RS-485,
RS-422, RS-423 can access distances of hundreds meters too, easily 1.5
km. And they can have speeds faster than the 20 ma. loop, up to 20 Mbaud
for modern components. And modem
are not what is mostly imagined. The "common modem" is used on
PSTN. But other modems are existing, small and efficient. For
private lines,
they not need to compose any dialing number. Because only ONE system
can exist on the line. Just to
remember that a "modem" is a system using "modulated signal". In
fact it transmit a digital signal using a carrier. And this signal
can be
coded using seceral technics. The carrier is limited to 4 Khz by
the networks. But encoding
systems permit to reach up to 33 Kbaud (BAUDS and in this case
not Hertz! Which means "binary information/sec)
Exchange
of files
First is to
note that at evidence the program can be used on both side of a link.
But it
is not required! In fact,
all MS-Windows and most other system have some program to connect
between computers and emulating a simple terminal. For MS-Windows(c),
from the
version 3, this is named "HyperTerminal".
And in this case, this program can exchange files using the Zmodem protocol.
Resulting
from this, you can easily echange files between Trakian and another
program running on another computer.
And you can easily do it to upload Trakian himself!!! (starting at Trakian
LE version) The other
peer must have started the Hyperterminal program, configured to the
same baudrate, parity, wordlength, ...
and the Zmodem protocol
Than the recipient set the program in the receive
mode and YOU send the batch of files hiting CTRL-F5 in the Zmodem functions.
And if anything is correctly configured, the callee shall see that
your computers sends datas, the batch of files, sending first the
name of
the files and after this each file. If nothing
happens it is probably because the baudrate is not valid. Or some
other parameters. Trakian
both sidesLike above,
the recipient must be placed in the "receive files" function.
So, in the Zmodem functions (F5 from main window) and than in "receive
mode": CTRL-F5
A batch of files must have been selected at the sender side (using
the filemanager-INS)
And the sender hit <SHFT-F5>
The system shall than start to connect to the recipient,
exchange protocol frames and the files. Above the
Trakian LE version, the files contains an Email conform to MIME
and Internet specifications. And all files to exchange are "attachments" to
the Email.
Summary
It is simple:
you put the recipient in the receive mode, ANY recipient program.
And you start to send files by "SHIFT-F5".
And if everything is OK and configured correctly, the batch of
files shall be sent.
REMARK
All Trakian's
versions can display an Email conform to MIME.
This is to say that the "body" window contains the "content" of the
Email.
And the header part can be seen by <F3>
There you shall see all informations concerning the destination,
source, formats, .....
