The Net Box, Web TV...

The ..... Net Box, Web TV..... all names copyrighted by some companies.

So, What is it? Just a box to connect to the Net, on the WEB part and to the TV!
The main board is about 95 mm. wide, 65 mm. high. The processor is a DSP, a small component, very powerfull just like you find in your GSM if it is a new generation. A Texas Instruments DSP, of 50 MIPS computation power. Later it shall be upgraded to 80 MIPS, and than 120 MIPS and we plan to use a dual processor chip around 200 MIPS.

The board is also equiped with 1 Mbytes of fast static RAM. And it include also a Solid State Disk of 20 Mbytes. On this disk it is able to memorize thousands of HTML pages with images.

The programs running on this board are Charlie, our browser, HTML 3.2 compliant. But also a TCP/IP stack, a realtime kernel, a storage manager (yes, a disk manager but this is not a disk!), and we are developping the display driver, a graphical one.
It shall also ofcourse later have other softwares like Email, FTP,....

The Net ....Box shall be able to connect to the TVset and to a VGA monitor. And it shall also be equiped to connect to a phone line through a modem. But it shall also be able to connect to the TV broadcasting cable.

The size?

Something about 120 x 120 x 60 millimeters. So, easy to place near, above or on the backside of a TVset. And it can be easily scotched to the TV, maybe placed inside.

Why is it possible?

Only because Charlie is proprietary and small, very small! So, it is portable and it can run on any processor, not needing an Intel Pentium. And because Charlie manage all what it need, like the disk, the line, the display ..... all softwares are also small and memory needs too. Charlie don’t need Mega of memory, and it can easily run in 1 Mbyte.
